The Doer

In active sentences, the Subject performs the action.

Subject + Verb + Object

"The chef cooks the meal."

Passive Voice

The Receiver

The focus shifts to the Object. The 'doer' is less important.

Object + am/is/are + V3 + (by Subject)

"The meal is cooked by the chef."

Rule 1: Switch Places

The Object moves to the front. The Subject moves to the end (or is dropped).

Rule 2: Add 'Be'

Insert am, is, or are based on the new subject (singular/plural).

Rule 3: Past Participle

Change the main verb to its 3rd form (V3).
e.g., write → written.
